MFW: Highlights, a few thoughts about Prada

Shimmer has been a big story for fall, whether it be sequins, crystals, metallic leathers or iridescent lurex. Prada’s transparent paillettes are my personal favorite so far. I love the degradé quality they have and how they were layered to a mermaid-like effect. The show, despite its nearly hour-late start time, was a high point of the season for me (along with Fendi, which showed earlier that day). Yes, it was somewhat more subdued than last season’s charged bananas. I’ve heard a few editors and stylists talk about that fact as if it were a drawback. But in my mind, the collection was the pretty, deceptively simple and kind of awkward cousin to last season’s hot, type A, in-your-face vixen. The impact may not be as immediate, but there’s a lot to discover and appreciate over time.
