Interview: Miranda Kerr has sun warrior protein powder for breakfast. We discuss.
For the first time in her five years of walking down the runway as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, Miranda Kerr got the honor of wearing the $2.5 million Fantasy Treasure Bra. And that’s just months after giving birth to her first baby with husband, Orlando Bloom. We ask her the question every woman wants to know.
Besides the $2 million bra, what’s the biggest difference between walking in a high fashion catwalk show such as, say, Balenciaga versus Victoria’s Secret?
The great thing with Victoria’s Secret is they really encourage us girls to interact with the audience and show a bit of personality so it’s a totally different thing for sure, but both of them are good in their own right. The Victoria’s Secret show is quite a theatrical performance. I love to be in the moment and feel the music.
You lost the little baby weight you gained ridiculously fast. Can you give us a breakdown of your daily diet?
Everyday is different but I like to start the day with a fresh green juice with kale, spinach, cucumber, beets, and lemon. Then half an hour later, I have a power smoothie which has sun warrior protein powder, chia seeds, maca powder, raw cacao, bee pollen, goji berries, noni juice, vitamineral green and coconut water. Then an hour after that I’ll have oatmeal or eggs. That’s my three-course power breakfast. For lunch I might have some grilled fish with goat cheese or baby spinach salad and olives. Sometimes I’ll have a sweet potato. At dinner, I’ll have a lentil soup and maybe some chicken. And I love to have my salads with avocado, feta and spinach.
It sounds like a lot of careful maintenance. What does your workout regimen look like?
I’ve been practicing yoga for over 12 years. And after I had the baby I started doing Pilates. That was really helpful. But three weeks leading up to the VS show, I start working out five times a week using a resistance band and leg weights.
Is the Fantasy bra heavy?
No it’s not so heavy but my wings are really heavy.

Artwalk: Three shows I’m looking forward to seeing this fall
One of my favorite things about going to New York Fashion Week in September is getting the chance to sneak in gallery visits between shows (not so hard to do since so many the collections are shown in Chelsea.) When the trends on the runway begin to blur into one another, a quick little art moment almost feels like a palette cleanser — the different mediums, the quiet space, the clean white walls, etc. These three shows, of varying degrees of MAJORness, are at the top of my to-see list.

Summer vacay favorites
“Simplify” has been a big catch word for me this summer. I’ve pared down everything from my eating (mostly raw fruit and veg) to my skincare and feel really great because of it. The three products pictured above have gotten me through the season’s hottest days, including a recent trip to Cyprus, which was dominated by 100+ F temperatures. La Prairie’s Anti-Aging Emulsion SPF 30 is a good lightweight face cream for oily skin types like myself, while the Ultra Protection Stick works really well for the lips and ears. I’ve been using plain old shea butter —the kind sold by African street vendors in New York and London —for everything else (but only at the end of the day, once I’m out of the sun.) Just note that a little goes a long way. Too much shea butter in the summer and you’ll feel like an oil slick. But I swear by it for keeping the arms and legs smooth, toned and bronze-y.
A brief guide to city summer skincare
Heat, humidity, air conditioning, car exhaust fumes, and overall pollution don’t exactly mix well with lipgloss, bronzer, blush and self-tanner. New York-based facialist and make-up artist, Mary Schook, gives advice on how to avoid common summer beauty pitfall
Model Joan Smalls expertly nailing summer skincare rule number three.
Don’t wear makeup over your sunblock
“The whole point is for the sunscreen to block all of the sun’s rays,” says Mary Schook, a New York-based skincare guru who is the woman beauty editors and models go to for clear, glowing skin. “It should definitely be the last thing you put on your eyes and technically, it should be the last thing to go on your face so that the zinc and titanium can refract the sunlight,” she explains. “But use your judgment with the face makeup and if you do wear foundation with built-in sunscreen, be sure to reapply it every two hours.”
Clean your face mid-day if you have to
“Too many women reapply their makeup throughout the day when it’s honestly better to just wipe all of the makeup and oil off with a little Witch hazel and start over,” she says. “The Witch hazel works because it rebalances the ph balance in your skin which protects and prevents it from getting too oily. If you just pile the makeup on, you’ll breakout later.”
Keep your hair out of your face
Those bangs might look great in the salon, but they could potentially wreak havoc on your forehead later. “Hair products with silicone in them can irritate the face and block pores, which is why it’s so important not to wear your hair in your face during summer,” she explains. “So when the weather heats up, you not only need to think about changing up your skincare regimen, but your haircare products too.”
